Rush Beta

Gone Greek NightSome of our newest members at Northwestern's Gone Greek Night, a celebration for all students who pledge a Greek house in the winter
Beta Theta Pi Recruitment is a quarter long process that begins in the fall of every academic year. While it is geared primarily towards incoming freshmen our pledge classes routinely include students from other years. To us Recruitment is a chance both for Beta to learn about prospective pledging and for those students to learn about Beta. The recruitment process is multi-faceted and should provide every prospective member with a medium through which he is able to connect with pledging of the brotherhood.

Our most organized and rewarding aspect of recruitment is our annual scholarship awarded to potential pledging. The scholarship involves an application round as well as an interview round prior to the selection round. All applicants who make it to the interview round are invited to our Thanksgiving Dinner (a formal affair) in which we will award a $1000 scholarship to one lucky applicant. Through the interview process and the formal dinner we learn about applicants in both formal and casual settings. Beta prides itself on achievement, both inside and outside the classroom, and thus the scholarship will be awarded based on previous achievements as well as those individuals who represent the ideals which Beta strives for. It is important to note that winning the money is not contingent on joining the fraternity, nor does receiving the scholarship guarantee an individual a spot in our brotherhood. For more details on the Recruitment Scholarship check the Scholarship page in the fall.

Other activities include Sunday night dinners when prospective pledging are invited to eat with the brothers during fall quarter. We also organized a pick-up basketball game weekly at Patten gymnasium on Thursday nights which freshmen are invited to participate in. Additionally, select freshmen have been invited to play on the Beta intramural football team over the last few years including Jon Datillo who helped Beta to a 2006 White League Championship before joining Beta the following winter. Activities such as broomball and date parties are routinely hosted throughout the fall with prospective pledging receiving select invitations.

While recruitment is organized on a certain level it is also about establishing individual relationships geared towards making prospective pledging feel comfortable and welcome in the chapter house. Beta prides itself on recruiting young men who will be the future leaders both within the fraternity and on campus.
